Neil Mix has written an interesting piece on design titled The Paradox of Elegance. He states that good design is hard, harder than most think, and the when it is finally acheived, the few remaining gaps stick out like sore thumbs. While he primarily focuses on the UI side, the same principles apply equally to all aspects of development. His says good design “is about whittling away distractions, making the obscure feel obvious, making the obvious feel implicit, and doing it without anyone noticing.” Well said.
